Women's Therapy

Women come to me worn from always placing themselves at the back of the line, after years spent tending relationships and invisible labor until their own needs stopped registering. Some arrive tangled in worries about how their bodies look, or with desire gone quiet and orgasm hard to reach. Others feel cut off from that part of themselves entirely. A few are rethinking partnerships that no longer fit, while others are learning to name a limit without the old guilt trailing right behind it.

Pleasure comes up too, and not only the bedroom kind. Sometimes it means simply existing in your body without apologizing for it, or sensing that someone actually sees you. Therapy can mean grieving the version of you that smoothed every edge and kept moving no matter what. If you've filled the caretaker role, or the one who holds it all together, this is a place to set that down for a while. We make room for the parts of you that aren't defined by what everyone else needs.

Why desire goes quiet

Low desire is the single most common sexual concern women bring into this room, more than pain, more than trouble with orgasm. It rarely starts in the body. It usually starts in the mind — exhaustion that crowds everything out, shame about how you look, the constant hum of everything still left to do. When your head stays that crowded, desire has nowhere quiet to land, and the body follows suit, holding back until it senses safety again. Nothing about that means something's broken in you. It means your system is responding exactly the way it's built to under that much weight.

The body image connection

How you feel about your body has a direct, documented effect on how much pleasure you're able to access — research ties body image straight to desire, arousal, and orgasm, not just to confidence in general. So if you've ever caught yourself monitoring your own angles or visibility mid-intimacy instead of actually being in the moment, that's not vanity or distraction. That's a real, well-studied barrier, and one we can work on directly instead of talking around it.

The cost of putting yourself last

Women tend to notice distress sooner and reach out for help more often than men do, and still, more than half of women living with real, distressing sexual difficulty never mention it to anyone. That pattern traces back to the same habit running through everything else: tending to others first, and filing your own needs under some future date that keeps getting pushed back. Making room for them takes real, deliberate effort. In practice, that room tends to hold things like:

  • Desire that's thinned out or disappeared, with or without an obvious reason

  • Arousal that stalls, or orgasm that stays out of reach, alone or with someone else

  • Body image that's crowding out sensation or presence

  • A sexual self that's gone quiet, like that part of you stepped away

  • Partnerships that need a fresh, honest look

  • Naming a limit or a want without guilt trailing right behind it

  • Grief for the version of you who always smoothed things over and held the rest together
